The first month of 2019 is almost over, which means it’s time for our January coffee break!
2019 is a big year for us and it’s off to a good start. We started the year in California on our big west coast road trip (details here!) and we’re slowly getting ready for our wedding in September and our big honeymoon to come after. All of that, plus lots of travelling, job changes, a possible move and lots of blog projects.
Needless to say, it’s a busy, yet exciting year for us.
We just came back from a weekend in Vancouver, our second road trip of the month. I was there for a two day course on tube feeding and intravenous feeding – In only a few months, I’ll be starting a different position in the hospital! While I was busy all weekend with the course, we did take the time to eat out a few times. This time, we tried MeeT (we had delicious vegan burgers), Ramen Danbo (my first time trying Ramen) and vegan poutines at Spud Shack. We don’t eat out often, but we do try a few vegetarian (or vegetarian-friendly) spots every time we travel.

Speaking of eBooks, I have some exciting news! I’m currently working on a new eBook! It’s still in the early stages, but I can tell you that this book is going to be bigger than my other little eBook and it will have a little more than just recipes. The theme? Legumes.
I’m not revealing anything more at this time, but I would love to hear from you guys. What kind of recipes would you love to see in this book and what would you love to learn about legumes?

Did you see the new Canada’s Food Guide? What do you think?
I think it’s definitely a step in the right direction. I love that it focuses less on meat and dairy and more on plant-based proteins. Plus, I think it’s great that it talks about the importance of preparing meals at home, eating together and enjoying our food.
One thing I like a little less is that fruits and starchy vegetables are paired with other vegetables, while they should be separate. Nevertheless, it’s a big improvement on the other and it’s much easier to use (as in, there are no more portions!).
It’s not perfect, but I like it.
This month, I read Into the Water, which had been sitting in my library for over a year now. It wasn’t the best mystery/suspense novel I’ve read, but it was good! I’ve also been listening to audiobooks lately whenever I go for a walk and this month, I listened to Paris for One by Jojo Moyes. Something light and funny (again, not the best, but still entertaining). Now I’m back to reading Harry Potter.

Hi! For the e-book, I would love to see a veggie burger recipe (can never have too many veggie burger recipes!) I would also love to see more recipes using tempeh/tofu or gluten free recipes that use pulses in baking. I would also love any type of mexican dish, burrito bowls/buddha bowls and dips. :) Love the blog!
