Warm Turmeric Ginger Milk in a cup

Making winter days a little better with this warm turmeric ginger milk. Not only is it warm and comforting, but this milk’s bright color is such a happy sight on a cloudy day like this one.

We’re expecting rain for the next couple of days, which makes me crave spring even more. I usually love winter, but this one has been dreadful. We were basically stuck inside from the end of December to the beginning of January due to the extreme cold temperatures. Since then, we’ve been experiencing drastic changes in temperature, which is not ideal for any outdoor activity. We seem to always have a few cold days with snow, followed by mild temperatures and heavy rain. It then freezes again and we’re left with icy roads and trails. Basically, I got snowshoes for Christmas and I got to use them twice. Lets just say, I’m ready for Spring!

Now, about this recipe. I posted an approximate recipe for this warm milk on Instagram a few weeks ago and I got some great feedback from those of you who tried it. I knew I had to share it on the blog as well!

It’s so simple, yet so comforting on a cold winter day. It’s also filled with turmeric and ginger for a little kick. It goes like this: Throw some fresh ginger, fresh or ground turmeric, one Medjool date and hemp seeds in a blender. Add one and a half cups of warm water, blend and serve. The result? A warm and frothy milk. The turmeric adds brightness and the date adds a touch of sweetness.

Notes on Substitutions:

I find this drink perfectly sweet with one date, but I recommend trying a sip and adding more as needed. You could use honey or maple syrup if preferred.

If you don’t have any hemp seeds, this drink is also great with cashews (I use 2 tablespoons). Hemp seeds do have a distinct taste, so if it’s not for you, I recommend using cashews as they have a lighter taste. Also, if you don’t have any fresh turmeric, you can use ground turmeric. Keep in mind that fresh turmeric stains hands and surfaces, so wash your hands thoroughly after handling or use gloves. It usually goes away after a few washes. Despite that, fresh is always better!

This turmeric ginger milk works best with a strong blender. The drink shouldn’t have any pieces of hemp, date or cashew left, so if yours does, strain it using a fine mesh sieve. Your milk should be smooth and frothy!

Also note that turmeric can leave your blender slightly yellow. This will fade away with time and you can also fix it by leaving your blender in direct sunlight.

If you’re looking for other warm comforting drinks to get you through this winter, I also love my peppermint mocha, peanut butter hot chocolate and cashew chai latte. I may be getting tired of winter, but I’ll never get tired of these warm blender drinks.

And that’s what fresh turmeric does to your fingers… Don’t worry, it can be washed. 🙂

Not 5 but 7 stars! I loved it. I used two pitted dates, added cinnamon, and used the water from grated ginger I had used four or five times already. I don’t like to waste. I have passed it on to family members.

I have been practicing good health since 19 (13 really) years of age and progressing as I age and learn more. I am 69. Today is my first day of officially claiming and becoming a fruitarian.

    HEALTH IS WEALTH!

    I appreciate you.
