Blender Iced Matcha Latte

If you don’t have a matcha whisk or bowl at home, you can still prepare a good iced matcha latte using this blender method. Preparing a matcha with a blender will give you an extra frothy latte with no chunks. All you need is 5 minutes and a few ingredients. This recipe is a simple guide to making a blender matcha and I added notes to help you adjust the ingredients to your taste.

How to Make an Iced Matcha Latte Using a Blender:

Here are the simple steps to create a frothy matcha latte at home using a blender.

  1. Blend the Matcha

Add your milk of choice with matcha powder, a sweetener (optional) and vanilla extract to a blender. Blend until frothy.

  2. Serve With Ice

Serve the matcha on top of ice and enjoy!

Matcha Latte FAQ:

Which Milk is Best for Matcha Lattes?

You can use any milk you enjoy in a latte. Oat milk works especially well with a matcha latte. Soy milk is another good option that will add more protein to your drink. For more control over the sweetness of your latte, use unsweetened milk and add a liquid sweetener to taste.

What is the Best Matcha for Lattes?

The best matcha for making lattes is a ceremonial matcha. It’s a better quality than culinary grade matcha and has a better flavor, plus a beautiful bright green color. However, ceremonial matcha can be significantly more expensive than culinary matcha. Choose a matcha that fits into your budget and that is enjoyable to you.

Personally, I love using DoMatcha ceremonial matcha when I want the beautiful bright green color and better quality. Otherwise, I tend to use a more budget-friendly option, such as a summer harvest matcha, which I found to be better than most culinary matcha powders. What Sweetener is Best for an Iced Matcha Latte?

If you want to add sweetener to your iced matcha latte, use a liquid sweetener for the best results. Maple syrup works well or honey if you’re not vegan. You can also use a simple syrup. If you have a strong blender, you can also use dates.

How to Make a Matcha Latte Without a Blender

This blender method is for those who don’t have a matcha whisk and bowl. It’s not the traditional way to prepare matcha. If you have a matcha whisk and bowl, I do recommend using them. This iced matcha latte uses this method if you want to learn more.

A Few Notes on the Recipe:

You can adjust the amount of matcha used in this recipe. I found that 1 1/2 teaspoon was perfect to my taste. The taste of matcha isn’t overpowering, but you still get some of its flavor. If you don’t like a strong matcha taste, you could go for 1 teaspoon. If you want more, 2 teaspoons could be best for you.

Turn it into a strawberry matcha latte: Add a spoonful of strawberry jam to taste and blend it all together.

Finally, I made this latte using my Vitamix blender. This recipe would still work with a weaker blender, as long as you use a liquid sweetener. If you use dates, you’ll need a powerful blender to avoid getting any chunks.

Notes

Sweetener: This latte works best with a liquid sweetener, such as maple syrup. I also tried it with a Medjool date and it worked well. You will need a strong blender for this and there may be a few very small pieces of dates at the bottom. For the best result, I recommend a liquid sweetener. If using oat milk or sweetened plant-based milks, you may not need to add sweetener.
Milk: Oat milk is my go-to for matcha lattes. It adds a light sweetness and pairs wonderfully with matcha. I also enjoy soy milk for more protein or a combination or oat and soy milk. Feel free to use your favorite plant-based milk in matcha. You could use sweetened milk to skip the sweetener. If using vanilla-flavored milk, you could skip the vanilla extract if preferred.
Matcha: Use ceremonial matcha for the best results. Feel free to add more matcha if you enjoy a stronger latte.
Turn it into a strawberry matcha latte: Add a spoonful of strawberry jam to taste and blend it all together.
