Iced almond matcha latte. A simple iced latte made with almond milk (or other plant-milks), matcha green tea powder, vanilla and sweetener of choice. This cold, frothy drink is made in under 5 minutes using a blender. It’s a delicious and refreshing summer drink!
The jet lag was real this weekend. I’ve been feeling tired since I came home from New Brunswick last week and as much as I would love to take it easy, I do have a lot to do over the next few months. So yes, I did relax (I managed to finish the first season of Dead to Me in only a few days and it was so good), but I did have a productive weekend.
I had another recipe planned for today, but the content wasn’t entirely ready. So instead, I ended up creating a delicious matcha latte this weekend (because, you know, caffeine), and I think it’s the perfect way to start the work week.
This recipe is very adaptable. It’s one of those simple recipes that you can adjust according to what ingredients and equipment you have on hand.
First, I leave the sweetener up to you in this recipe. I personally love it with one medjool date, but if your blender is on the weaker side, you might want to go for a liquid sweetener. I think maple syrup or honey would be great in this recipe! Start small and add more to taste.
Second, you can switch the milk in this recipe. I used unsweetened almond milk, but oat milk is also delicious! You could also try cashew milk or low-fat coconut milk!
Next, you can adjust the amount of matcha used in this recipe. I found that 1 1/2 teaspoon was perfect to my taste. The taste of matcha isn’t overpowering, but you still get some of its flavor. If you don’t like a strong matcha taste, you could go for 1 teaspoon. If you want more, 2 teaspoons could be best for you.
Finally, I made this latte using my Vitamix blender. This recipe would still work with a weaker blender, as long as you use a liquid sweetener. If you use dates, you’ll need a powerful blender to avoid getting any chunks.
Try using a mason jar! Add the matcha and a small amount of water to a jar. Using a matcha whisk, make a thick paste (this prevents getting any chunks). Then, add the remaining ingredients, close the jar and shake it until it’s smooth!
I don’t find this as effective and quick as a blender, but it works in a pinch.
