Vegan Salted Maple Hot Cocoa

Vegan salted maple hot cocoa, made in the blender! This cozy drink requires only a handful of pantry ingredients and less than 5 minutes of preparation.

Is September too early for hot cocoa? I hope not because there’s really no season for cozy drinks in my book. Luckily I live in Canada and I can get away with drinking warm beverages most days of the year.

If you’re looking for something different to sip on this fall, then I highly recommend trying a hot cocoa made in the blender.

This recipe is made with cocoa powder, maple syrup, sunflower seed butter (or other nut/seed butters), hot water and a pinch of salt. That’s it! Just throw all the ingredients in a blender, blend for 10-20 seconds and you’re done! You’ll have a warm, frothy and delicious cup of hot cocoa.

Notes on the Recipe:
  • Be careful when adding hot water in the blender. I’ve never had any issues, but be careful when removing the lid as there will be steam.
  • You can easily adjust the sweetness of this recipe. I would recommend making the recipe as indicated, then taste and add more maple syrup as needed. Just blend it again for a few seconds.
  • Additionally, you can make this drink a little more rich by adding more cocoa powder to taste.
  • Finally, if you don’t have sunflower seed butter on hand, you can use almond butter or cashew butter. Peanut butter would work as well, but it will change the taste of the hot cocoa significantly. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing if you like peanut butter!
