A simple go-to iced matcha recipe with oat milk. This recipe is versatile and can be adjusted to your preferences.
How to Make an Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk
Add 1 teaspoon of sifted matcha (or more for a stronger latte) to a matcha bowl. Add about 1/4 cup of warm water to the matcha. Avoid using boiling water.
Whisk the matcha by moving the matcha whisk back and forth, until no clumps remain and the matcha is frothy.
Add a handful of ice cubes and the oat milk to a glass. Pour the whisked matcha on top and stir to combine. Add sweetener to taste if desired.
Tips to Make the Best Matcha Latte
Use ceremonial matcha for the best quality, color and flavor. Culinary matcha also works for a cheaper option, but it will be more bitter and will have a dull green color.
Use hot, not boiling water.
If you love a stronger matcha flavor, you can add more matcha if preferred. If you’re new to matcha and/or prefer a lighter matcha flavor, start with 1/2-3/4 teaspoon.
How to Make a Matcha Latte without a Matcha Whisk
A matcha whisk is traditionally used in Japan to prepare matcha and will result in the best latte. That being said, if you don’t own a matcha whisk, you can make a matcha latte at home by using a blender, an electric whisk or a milk frother. I used a blender for years before getting a matcha whisk and it works very well. Simply add the matcha and the oat milk to a blender and blend until smooth and frothy. Pour the blended matcha over ice. You can follow this ice matcha recipe for a blender version.
The Best Sweeteners for Iced Matcha Lattes
If you want to add sweetener to your iced matcha latte, I recommend using a liquid sweetener for the best results. Maple syrup works well, or honey if you’re not vegan. You can also make a simple syrup with sugar (use store-bought or follow your favorite recipe).
If you want to use dates, I recommend checking out this recipe for a blender iced matcha latte (use oat milk instead of almond milk). This is not a traditional way of making matcha, but it works well if you don’t have a matcha whisk or if you want to make a date-sweetened latte.

Notes
I recommend using ceremonial matcha for the best quality, color and flavor. That being said, ceremonial matcha is more expensive than regular culinary matcha. Use what fits in your budget. I enjoy both, but find that I need to add a bit more sweetener to the culinary matcha to compensate for the added bitterness. If you love a stronger matcha flavor, you can add more matcha if preferred. If you’re new to matcha and/or prefer a lighter matcha flavor, start with 1/2-3/4 teaspoon.Oat milk is naturally a little sweet, but I love to add a small amount of maple syrup for extra sweetness. Honey would also work if you’re not vegan. If you want to use dates, I recommend checking out this recipe for a blender iced matcha latte.
