A simple vegan salted maple hot cocoa made in the blender. If you’re looking for something different to sip on this fall, then I highly recommend trying a hot cocoa made in the blender.
This recipe is made with cocoa powder, maple syrup, sunflower seed butter (or other nut/seed butters), hot water and a pinch of salt. That’s it! Just throw all the ingredients in a blender, blend for 10-20 seconds and you’re done! You’ll have a warm, frothy and delicious cup of hot cocoa.
How to Make Hot Cocoa with a Blender:
Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to making hot cocoa in a blender.
Boil Water
Bring water to a boil using a tea kettle.
Add the Ingredients to a Blender.
Add cocoa powder, sweetener of choice, nut or seed butter and a pinch of salt to a high-speed blender. Carefully add the hot water.
Blend
Blend everything together for 10-20 seconds or until smooth and creamy. Pour in a mug and top with marshmallows. Enjoy!
Notes on the Recipe:
Be careful when adding hot water in the blender. I’ve never had any issues, but be careful when removing the lid as there will be steam.
You can easily adjust the sweetness of this recipe. I would recommend making the recipe as indicated, then taste and add more maple syrup as needed. Just blend it again for a few seconds. You can also use different sweeteners if preferred, such as granulated sugar. 1-2 Medjool dates also works well if you have a strong blender.
Additionally, you can make this drink a little more rich by adding more cocoa powder to taste.
Finally, if you don’t have sunflower seed butter on hand, you can use almond butter, cashew butter or hazelnut butter. Peanut butter would work as well, but it will change the taste of the hot cocoa significantly. The nut butter is what will make this cocoa cream, without using milk!
